Itinerary
This is a taste of what your Luxury Rail Trail experience will look like.
Meet at our Clyde base for a comprehensive safety briefing . We’ll go over everything you need to know and get you comfortable with your equipment and bike ready for the day ahead.
From Clyde, cycle along the Clutha river track to Alexandra, then along the Otago Rail trail to Galloway. Head up over Crawford Hills Road dropping down into Poolburn and the historic Moa Creek Pub. We then climb 12km along a rough 4wheel drive track to the magnificent Poolburn Dam , which is more like a large high country lake providing water for the whole Ida Valley and an amazing eco system.
There will be time for a late afternoon ride around the lakes edge or hike or maybe a late afternoon fish for a brown trout or paddle board. Overnight in a rustic high country hut and enjoy some local cuisine and beverages on the lakes edge.
Early morning breakfast then we head along the historic Dunstan Trail around the lakes edge up into the high country along rough 4 wheel drive tracks to the Serpentine Church. A Spectacular ride with 360 degree panoramic views . Enjoy a picnic style lunch then an exhilarating (mostly) downhill ride back out the to the Moa Creek Pub for our transfer back to Clyde.
